Prewrite
1. What are you good at?
2. How do you feel when you're doing the thing you're good at?
3. How would you feel if people wouldn't let you do the thing you're good at?

1. I am good at fashion designing clothes. Also, I'm good at baby-sitting my baby sister, Clarisse and many other little children. One of my favorite hobbies is cooking because it helps bond with my parents and my sisters, Jackie and Eliza. Sometimes I study just to review or I study for a test.I study my animal facts, so I can be just like Steve Irwin. Sometimes I like swimming, but I am not so sure if I'm good at swimming. I know for sure that I am not so great at sports, such as soccer, baseball, and football. Maybe basketball I can play, but I don't think that I am so wonderful at it.
2. I feel so proud at myself that my family guides to my dreams. Everyday I thank God that I accomplish at least one adventure I wanted to do in my life. Every morning I remind myself that I should take my life for granted because I am still young and I have my whole my life ahead of me. Also, I have to live up to my life and I shouldn't live a lazy. I may not know what I want to in life, but I do know that I want be someone or something important.
3. I would feel bad, upset, and flushed with anger because people should realize that I am capable to do anything I enjoy doing. Also, this would make me feel unsure of myself and possibly have a low self-esteem. One of the things I dislike most is criticizing since it is a very rude thing to do at someone that all they are doing is reaching their goal and accomplishing in their life, which is, none of their business or their problem. In addition, my hobbies are very important to me and also, I dislike the fact that people make me feel like an outcast, a misfit unwanted, and a lonely person. I'd change people's mind by improving. The lesson in this passage is that you shouldn't judge others, talk bad about others.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008 CLASSWORK Chapter 1
1. What problems or conflicts are presented in chapter one? Tao needing to find a rabbit is an obvious one; identify at least two more (not having anything to do with the rabbit!).
2. Predict the resolution of each conflict.

1. Of course, Tao needing to find the rabbit is one of the problems, but there is still more conflicts to that novel. Such as, Tao didn't kill enough mice and which is a bad problem because his clan is hungry and expect Tao hunt and kill many animals. In addition, Tao has a bad foot, which causes him to slow down and stops him from hunting or do many things. Also, drawing is a taboo to his clan, but not to him because he loves drawing.
2. Since I have read the book, I know what happens in the novel. I think he is going to find another rabbit and return to the clan for, at least one month. Also, his foot is going to get better, so he can hunt better than before. I think his clan is going to understand his gift at drawing.

Chapter 3
1. What do Tao and Ram learn to do together?

2. What decision does Tao tell Volt?

3. Look at Tao's decisions and actions from Volt's perspective. Pretend you are Volt. Write a first person paragraph explaining how you feel.

1. Tao and Ram learn to hunt together, so sooner or later they become best friends. But the bad thing is that it is a taboo to get involved with wolves because Tao's clan think that they are bad luck and that they are a curse.

2. That he does not want to hunt like the rest of the clan because he thinks that they should hunt with wolves just like the mountain men.

3. I think Tao is crazy because where did he get the idea that we should hunt like the mountain men and hunt with the wolves. He should take the chance he has for granted because I could leave him for dead. I think he should had been gone since he was in the clan. I don't know what to do, but leave him and go on with the clan. But I think he should show us what is his secret about hunting and where did he get lots of food? Also, where is his best hunting grounds?

Read Chapter 4 in class. Answer the following questions
Chapter 4
In a good paragraph, describe Tao's mother. Start with an interest grabber. Then write your topic sentence. Give three details or examples to support your thesis. Use a quotation from the chapter.

Tao's mother is, maybe, a good mother that may have love Tao just like Kala did throughout his childhood. Any mother would have love Tao just like his childbirth mother and Kala, his stepmother, but he was early-born child and there was nothing they could do about it. Tao's mother was very brave unlike many people were afraid that he wasn't healthy like many other babies and children. I think she was very brave to fight for Tao and herself. Also, I think women are very strong and brave. She may given up her life, which she did for Tao. Many others may have given up because they were too stupid to realize life is important. Also, she was smart because she stayed in that cave to survive. This supports my thoughts. ''.... that weak and crippled children be taken up among the boulders and left for the hyenas. But your mother wouldn't you go.''..... (et certa)

Answer the following questions
Chapter 5
1. Which two animals does Tao try to draw?
2. Which is easier for him and why?

1. First, he drew a horse and finds it very difficult to draw. He tries to remember the last time he drew a horse and remember that it was hard to draw a horse. Another animal he drew was a wolf because he sees Ram and Ram reminds as a great hero. Tao finds it very easy to draw a wolf and he thinks that's because a horse is complicated to draw and thinks he should had a sketch of it. But with Ram, he was much easier to draw because he has less complicated.
2. Again, Ram was less complicated and less confusing. The horse is crooked and has too much lines. He thought maybe he had confidence with Ram because Ram, to Tao, he is very kind.

Chapter 6
1. Graybeard realizes that Tao has broken two taboos of his clan. What are they?
2. Which taboo doesn't he know about yet?
3. Graybeard describes Volt differently than we have. What aspects of Volt's character is Graybeard acknowledging?

1. Graybeard realizes that he broke two taboos, which are, Tao hunts in a forbidden land, which is the Slough. Also another a taboo Graybeard knows Tao had broke is that Tao hunts with a wolf dog, Ram and hunting with a wolf dog is too a taboo because evil spirits and curses could happen to the clan.
2. Graybeard doesn't know that Tao draws and he is not a Chosen one or a cave painter to say he is allowed to draw on surfaces, but Tao isn't a cave painter or Chosen one. Tao doesn't want him to find out, but in the time, he wants Graybeard to see his drawings and comment on them.
3. Graybeard describes Volt as he had something behind him and his life and Volt was trying to avoid it. He tells Tao that Volt was attacked by a wolf dog, but Tao does not believe and nor Graybeard.

CLASSWORK Thursday, October 23, 2008
Write your reaction to the last paragraph in the chapter. Do you agree or disagree with Graybeard? Is what he says true for those times, but not now? Or is the reverse true: is it true now, but wasn't true then?

I disagree with Graybeard because it's Tao's dream to dream or at least be a Chosen One. But on the other hand, Graybeard is kinda of right because you have to respects others' rules. In Asia, you have to do take off your shoes, not do it. I don't know what to think because there are so many customs that I don't understand like eating dogs.

Chapter 8
An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today, where a person's desires go against society's expectations
What situation did you imagine?

In the situation you imagined, should the person follow his or her dreams or should they follow society's rules? Give your opinion.

The situation I imaged was that if girls are plumbers and work or be in the army, but I don't know what is the problem because I think everyone should follow their dreams. If I were to be a ''man's job'', my parents would be a little weird about it, but I know that they will support my dream because they think that my happiness (and my sisters' happiness, too) is important to them. Now, with others, I don't that some parents will feel uncomfortable with the idea about their daughter wants to be a plumber. But I can image how their reaction would be because they are going to be surprised to know that their son or daughter wants to be something weird or at least something society expects, then parents should realized that is what their child wants to do.

Chapter 9
Why do you think Graybeard changed his mind?
What does this tell you about his character?

Graybeard changes his mind because maybe he knows that is what Tao wants to do instead of just a normal boy. So Graybeard wants to teach Tao, so Tao can feel that he did something he can remember and say, ''Hey, I did something in my life that I enjoy remembering!'' So, the day Graybeard became a cave painter, he wants Tao to feel the same way he felt he was something important.
What I can say about Graybeard is that he is wise, old man who teaches Tao about life and most importantly, drawing. Graybeard is a man who is like to Tao because throughout Tao's childhood.

Also, Tao is thinking that he should paint the ''mountains-that-walk'' a.k.a. mammoths. The ingredient that surprised me the most was the fish oil.

1. Even if Ram had succeeded in hunting the deer, do you think it was a good idea of Tao's to "show off" his dog's ability to hunt? Explain.
2. Predict what will happen next. If you've read ahead, invent an alternate scene.

1. I don't Tao should bragging about that Ram was a great hunter because Ram is a wolf dog and next thing you know Tao is going to lose Ram because Tao was too busy to pay any attention to Ram. And why? Because Tao was too busy to notice Ram, Ram is not going to be ''best friends'' with Tao anymore. Tao would be so ANGRY with himself that Tao won't be able to forgive himself, now that he lost his best friend, Ram, who was always there for him, Tao.

Wow! What a chapter! What was your reaction? Tense? Surprised? You predicted it? Write a paragraph describing your reaction.

WOW! If I was Tao, I would have never guess that Volt was and still is my father because Volt might mean in many different ways. But in other ways Volt had the heart to at least love Tao because when Tao was about to face Saxon, Volt gave him a spear to attack Saxon. Also, Volt was trying to distract Saxon, so Tao can get up.

Tao feels he needs to go to the Mountain People because Tao can prove himself by painting and thge Mountain Peoplew will welcome him because Tao is the cave painter.
